pretty girls...

a friend told me that i don't go in for painting

pretty girls.  the comment gave me pause.

at first i didn't know how to take it.

when i looked over this last collection

of post cards, i realized that she might have a point.

i paint faces that express a variety of emotions.

it doesn't depend on my mood

but what comes through me at that particular moment.

but rarely admit the changes it has gone through

  1. Pretty can be rather anodyne! You go your own way. Great to quote Maya this weekend - RIP an important lady.

  3. That is an interesting comment. I don't paint pretty faces either but I see beauty in them as I do in your faces. There is emotion and depth and a haunting life in them. I love your faces.

  6. It is wonderful that you choose to portray the reality of life and its emotion in your art. It gives it a far greater depth and interest. Lovely tribute to Maya Angelou.

  7. I'm wondering if the person was an artist! We are a conduit for what comes out....it's not always a choice.Love the quote, and your art is always interesting and wonderful!

  8. There are so many pretty faces, and although I like sometimes to paint them, I much prefer to draw faces with a meaning, reality and emotion to them. As you say, it is what comes out when we sit down to paint, and I always find your artwork entrancing and intriguing. All lovely pieces.

  9. I've had some bewildering comments about my art, also. It's been mostly from people who aren't artists, and don't get it. Keep painting, Irene!! The world needs your artwork.
