journal page

hello friday!

this week i started a collage series at a workshop

held by kathy leader.  the prompts were to first use

three colors of acrylic paint, then to one, add collage,

to another, use a complimentary color and the third,

do your choice.  here are my three.

this is how the center piece looks after i worked it.

i can't wait to incorporate the other two pieces

so that all three the piece can be hung together.

(the color on this single piece is more accurate)

i admire picasso's tenacity to work the same piece

over and over again until he liked it.    the norton

simon museum in pasadena has a series of his

lithographs that shows this process so on a

clear day, i visited.  i must say that this is one of

my favorite museums.   not only is it beautiful

but it is just the right size for a visit and i love the

impressionist selection.  this time, though, i only

had enough time to see the picasso exhibit.

here are a few picture.  i will post more in the future.

i am inspired by van gogh.

and could not miss this special exhibit of

his bedroom borrowed from the chicago institute of art.

oh, the colors.  i wish you could see the  vibrancy !

i would love to hear who inspires you!!

i am posting today with paint party friday,
a weekly online community of artists
hosted by eva and kristen.

i made this journal years ago.

the pages are of varying sizes.  i have not

been certain about it, the unpredictability of it all.

i have embraced it, added packing tape collage along

with one of my paintings to the cover and

am in love with it.   i have joined the 30 day

journal challenge with lisa sonora for the

month of september.  it has unexpectedly become

very grounding to write daily.

southern california has experiencing years

of drought.  drought tolerant gardens have been popping

up all over to help conserve water so along with the

palm trees of old, succulents are commonplace.

i am appreciating the refreshing beauty in these plants.

collage artist, mom, grand mom, daily blogger,

instructor, friend and very funny to boot.

i have taken numerous classes from her.  recently

i spent a few hours journaling under her tutelage.

can you tell that i had fun  in her class?

if you get a chance to experience this lovely

lady don't hesitate!

day 5, 30 paintings in 30 days challenge

high note, acrylic

for now i am leaving this painting a little

'sketchy.'  it may change at some point

but not now.

i have neglected my journal and my online journal buddies.

i have started to play.  my desk top is clear, journal open, paints out.

ready for business.

journaling regularly gives you a place

to record thoughts

experiment and juxtapose diverse images together

mark an event

write out thoughts that would normally float through

your mind and leave

sketch a scene.

i thumbed through a little journal on my shelf today

remembering who i was at that moment.  also noticing

how the format of my journals have changed immensely

from the use of magazine images to original painted images

i miss the simple cut and paste and appreciate both ways of expression.

a few photos from the power of art opening of the

redondo beach art group.  two of my blue monoprints

are shown in the first photo.

it's your journal.

it does not have to be finished.

it does not have to be pretty.

it does not have to be perfect.

it is yours.

as my yoga teacher, christopher, says

at the end  of each session,

this is who you are

right now.
