working on a number of different pieces at the same time

helps to stave off getting stuck that being so invested in one

piece can bring.  yesterday i worked on various stages of

seven paintings.  i set them up around my kitchen so that i could

see all of them while i worked on one, like a mom with seven kids

in the same play yard.  have to keep an eye on them.

this one is painted on a piece of 1/2 inch wood that i found.

she was all finished when i realized that the wood

on her neck had natural gouges.  not flattering.  it was painted

but in the light it really was apparent.   my handiman suggested i use wood putty

to fill it in.   so i did with three coats and sanding between.  now she's ready to repaint.

hopefully i can match the color.  i will probably gesso the putty first,

maybe even tint the gesso?  i have never done that but am thinking

that the white might be too strong of an under color.

how do you work?  what do you find satisfying, stressful?

one at a a time?  multiples, series?

i love that you visited today and

wish you a lovely weekend

XOXO

  1. Wow, what a gorgeous photo!Irene, To answer your question, I used the Modge Podge to cover the entire surface because PearlEx will smear and rub off if not coated. I used the matte MP and it gave it just a slight overall shine. (I couldn't find the soft gel I normally coat it with.) PearlEx is the same as Perfect Pearl except it does not have a fixative in it. My dh gave me more PearlEx than I will be able to use but I love all the colors. I have recently bought the metallic PP. Sometimes I mix gum arabic with PE and that makes it stable.

    1. Thank you, Faye. I am experimenting with using a semi gloss medium/gel on the top of paintings and also a spray varnish. I will give the MP a try as well.

  2. wow, Irene - just beautiful. I can't imagine having seven going at the same time. I will work on a couple and maybe three. Its actually a really good way to work - nothing gets precious and I think we learn a little from each one that carries to the next. Can't wait to see the entire series! M.x

  3. i didn't realize that i worked on seven until i stopped to count. there was a series of 3 so maybe that can be counted as one. you are absolutely right, nothing gets precious. that's helpful.

  4. She is gorgeous, Irene, and the chiaroscuro feel gives her such an elegant look too. I usually work on one painting at a time, but like to have other little projects like art journaling or paper crafts that I work on in between sessions for the same reason as you. Blessings!

  6. Yes Irene tint the gesso first. Make sure the wood putty is completely dry. She is stunning. I can see you eyeing the paintings and making decisions on each one. The photo is amazing as well.
    Have a great week

  7. She is looking great so far. Can't wait to see her finished. I usually only work on one thing at a time although I have three works on the go at the moment.

  8. I love working on more pieces at the same time, although 7 paintings is even for me a bit much ;-)
I love what you've done with this painting so far. Looking forward to seeing all of them!
