i have been working on paper recently.

here is a mixed media piece and a mono print

with collage added.

i attended a showing of fiber arts at the

palos verdes art center.  i found it exciting

and innovative.  i worked with textiles for

many years and love, love, love the medium.

i visited before the names were posted so i cannot

credit the many talented artists.

and i have exciting news...

i am published in the march/april issue

of cloth, paper, scissors.

the article has a detailed explanation of

tea bag painting!

southern california has been experiencing

70 degree and sunny weather.  i love the light that

comes with the spring sunshine!

and always, the sunsets over the pacific.

have a lovely weekend!

i am preparing for a solo show.

the hosts requested framed teabags.

here is an example.  i have found different

styles of tiny frames to use.

they feel so dressed up!

day 1 of 29 faces

i often start a new piece from paper or a canvas

that was perviously used.  it feels familiar and

friendly to add paint or watercolor to substrate that

had a previous life.  the other side of this heavy

watercolor paper is turquoise and embossed from the

imprint of rosemary and   bougainvillea from my yard.

when i turned the the paper around i saw a lovely, soft

bleed through of color.  i added bits and pieces of tea bag

which matched and created the darker edge of her hair.  then

sketched in a soft face with pencil.   i always like a challenge and

look forward to 28 more faces this month.  click on the link to

hello,

i have missed you!

i haven't disappeared, i have been posting on instagram

instead of my blog and Facebook.

all in the family, acrylic on canvas

it takes me a while to

become accustomed to a new venue.

5 x 7 acrylic and ink on cardboard

i have continued to

paint daily.  lately, i have had a bunny obsession

caught, red-handed making bunnies!

mono print on paper

so i present

them to you today.

not seeing double...

rather, these are two mono prints. using

water based inks, i painted the image

then ran a print through the press.

then i repainted a second painting with slightly

different colors.

looking through a viewfinder and taking

various portions of the print

there are several different references i can

use to create other paintings should i wish to.

in this way i am using my own image to create

further pieces.

it is the beginning of a busy weekend.

busy doing what you might wonder...

well, in another life i was a passionate knitter.  i could always be

seen with a pair of knitting needles in my hands.  i loved yarns.  i made it a point

of visiting every yarn store in my city and other cities i visited.   i learned when

i was 9, taught many many friends to knit, designed my own patterns

was the go to person in many circles when knit problems came up because

i was known as the solver.  after decades of knitting, a few years ago i developed

tendonitis and can no longer knit.  i have a treasure hold of yarns that i have be unable

to let these yarns go.  today i have started the process of lightening my load,

simplifying, passing on that which does not serve me.   these boxes have been

delivered to a friend and passionate knitter.  there are more boxes yet to come.

feels good.

since i joined the mono printing group last year i have been

intimidated about taking the next step which to me means

adding layers.   because the water based printing inks reactivated

with water i have not know how to proceed.   so i have ended up with a nice stack of prints.

i decided to experiment by spraying an acrylic fixative and cutting

a large print into several smaller pieces.  i discovered that the fixative

prevented the dreaded reactivation and i was able to paint and stencil

on top.  this is the first step.  since i lean toward a definite focal image,

i am thinking one will appear soon.

my experimental group was all about pentangles.  i have never done

any before.  it is so relaxing and i love the minimal supplies needed~~

a pen, pencil, eraser and paper.  voila.  such a light load compared with

the baggage i carry around for mixed media.

i like using pens for line work.  my favorite black pens are

micron .005, .05, .01 and the graphic 1 and the sharpie extra fine.

signo uniball roller broad is my favorite white pen by far because it creates an

even line and writes over acrylic.  here is a good article on white pens.

day 14

29 faces

monoprint of the traditional japanese talisman,

maneki-neko

often seen in the entrance of places of business, shops and  restaurants

to beckon customers and good luck.  the calligraphy is an 17th century

coin signifying wealth.

first i made a wire form

so you can see the size

after printing it in black ink on the press i colored it in with these acrylic pens.

it was like paint by numbers.

i made another print and am thinking i might

paint it in an untraditional way.
