i felt like i hit the jackpot when i found a sonia delunay book

on sale at anthropologie.  i love her use of color and design but

was unfamiliar with her figures.  i used a small section of one of her

paintings for this teabag painting.

i am experimenting with figure drawing this week.

simple lines are deceptively difficult.

i have paper ephemerah flowing from drawers,

shelves, closets.  a friend suggested i use them to collage in large books.

he said don't think about it.  just work intuitively.  here are a few

pages.  i worked fast, intuitively and had a lot of fun!  also he said

that i can cut portions of the pages if i want to use them in a painting.

good idea!

it's been hot, hot, hot this week.  in the 90's.

but the sunsets have been spectacular and the

evenings delicious.

thank you for visiting today.

have a lovely weekend!

hello!

here is some of the work i have

been doing this week.

30 paintings in 30 days

journal

paintings on teabags endlessly intrigues me.

i use them like a playground to experiment

with various mediums and studies.

i made this journal years ago.

the pages are of varying sizes.  i have not

been certain about it, the unpredictability of it all.

i have embraced it, added packing tape collage along

with one of my paintings to the cover and

am in love with it.   i have joined the 30 day

journal challenge with lisa sonora for the

month of september.  it has unexpectedly become

very grounding to write daily.

southern california has experiencing years

of drought.  drought tolerant gardens have been popping

up all over to help conserve water so along with the

palm trees of old, succulents are commonplace.

i am appreciating the refreshing beauty in these plants.

this week

in this studio

i tried to capture the magic light that beckons every morning

this started as a painted canvas that has been sitting unfinished.

it needed more than paint

so i collaged using mainly printed tissue papers.

i made a copy of a previous painting and tore it.

then glued it into my journal and painted another face.

on the adjacent page i made a pcket.

on individual pieces of paper i wrote

different dares and what i thought might

happen if i dared do it.  it was a

revealing exercise.

another copy of a previous face glued to

my journal.  i painted, stenciled

and then collaged a dress

these next are teabags.

others visiting me today.

that's it for my creative week.

how was your week?

day 5

30 paintings in 30 days

29 faces

i have taken on several creative challenges this month...

one probably would have been enough but i could not say no

to the second... and then the third, a journaling challenge with

prompts came along.  after much thought i decided i would try.

if it became too much i would bow out.  as it turns out,

the journaling is fueling my creative fire.   i learned

that you can never predict what will be the one thing

that will add to your life.  do you spark your creativity

in any particular way?

30 day journal with lisa sonora

"Pursuing my path of becoming an artist wasn't really about the art."
Lisa Sonora

the journaling reads:

my family immigrated to the united states in the
early 1900s from japan.  each of them explored
art at times of distress.

i do my art because it is my calling.  i did not
know this for decades.

this is a friday post along with others creatives
at paint party friday, a weekly showcase of art
 hosted by eva and kristen.
