post cards
i have dabbled in encaustics and like so much about it.
first of all the smell of wax is yummy, the unpredictable
quality, the soft translucence like looking through a dream.
but sometimes talking out all of the equipment involved,
having a day warm enough to leave the windows open,
and the patience isn't a luxury that is available. i saw this golden
video showing faux encaustic options. i used matt soft gel medium
mixed with fluid matt medium and a tiny bit of golden quinacradone
nickel azo gold and applied the mixture with a small palate knife,
there are other recipes that i intend to try in the future.
let me know if you try it.
here is the golden video i watched.
sharing with paint party friday
have a lovely week!
Love what you have made, and that is something I would like to try out when I have more time. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie

What fun. I especially like the second post card:) Best tree in the forest.....
ReplyDeleteIrene, I enjoyed your post so much. I have been curious about using encaustic but I'd have to buy all the materials because I don't have any of them. Your faux encaustic paintings are beautiful and I enjoyed the video.
ReplyDeleteFaye, I am glad that you found the video helpful. I had the supplies on hand so found it easy to jump right in and try it. There are other faux encaustic formulas that I will try in the future. I'd love to see your experiments.

great compositions Irene! I have heard of this faux technique but haven't tried it yet. I also have a book on the subject which I haven't gone thru either as it is a fairly recent purchase. Will share on my blog once I get into it:)
ReplyDeleteEncaustics sound like a lot of fun, and the results are beautiful. My favorite is the first one, with its juxtaposition of organic and geometric shapes. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWonderful encaustic creations ~ love it ~
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend to you ~ ^_^
I've never tried this faux technique. It looks intriguing.
ReplyDeleteGreat artwork as always. Thanks for sharing.
Encaustic does sound like a lot of work but I can see how it would be an interesting medium. Very interesting little cards.
ReplyDeleteLovely work Irene!
ReplyDeletethe faux techniques are such fun... I occasionally play with them... love your work this week ... please accept my apologies for being late for PPf visits ... again!!!
