handmade journal
i rediscovered the simple joys of
hunting for a focal image,
randomly ripping and tearing, gluing,
splash of serendipitous paint to prepare
journal pages. then documenting bits of my
life by journaling. many of you know that
for many years, i did this daily each morning
in my neighborhood cafe. before realizing
what happened i got away from this lovely
habit. looking back, i see that learning to paint
took over. but now i am delighted that there is time
for both. since i have had so many problems with collaging
i am writing a future blog post on my favorite adhesives
including a personal adhesive mix,
if you get a chance, click on the pop up gallery tab
to view the art in my most recent solo show.
have a lovely weekend!

Irene, lovely lovely journal with all those wonderful warm colors. I also enjoyed looking at the teabag girls blog and also at the popup gallery. You do great work whether it is painting or collaging. As for my portrait. I tried to do a self portrait several years ago and it ended up with 1/2 looking like my sister and 1/2 looking like me. I have tried to fix the eyes, the mouth, and other things. It is more in proportion than it was but it still looks like both of us!
ReplyDeleteI love the thought that the portrait has elements of you and your sister even though it started as a self portrait. Thank you for visiting the popup and teabags. I still have many more teabags to enter but it is a timely process.

That sounds like a wonderful exercise, but I can see how time could be an issue. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI love gluing and pasting. Collage is really fun. Great colors in your journal pages.
ReplyDeleteSo good that you restarted that habit, it's so easy to let daily life take over and before you know it nothing has been done for months. At least that's how it is for me. Looking forward to your personal adhesive mix :-)
ReplyDeleteYour handmade book looks beautiful. Like one of those items you just have to pick up because it is so lovely and full of treasurers. Have a great PPF and enjoy the weekend, hugs, Rasz
ReplyDeleteThis looks lovely Irene! I can't wait to hear what your personal adhesive mix is.
ReplyDeleteJournal looks warm and attractive like your photo! Have you tried matte impasto gel diluted with a bit of boiled water as adhesive? I find that I can stick stuff down and brush over it, then dry under pressure between layers of freezer wrap to stop it sticking to anything. Doesn't seem to stick to stuff later (with luck) - certainly doesn't feel sticky once dry like some mediums do.
ReplyDeletehi Irene. Ohhh see all of your lovely art in the pop up gallery is amazing. I have told you this before but.... your art seems so effortless, soft and gentle bold and strong all at the same time. Your art evokes such emotion. I will stay tuned to read about the adhesives. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am SO interested to see what is on those pages! Wonderful little journal. You are such a creative person--you inspire me.
