Early Morning

journal cover

mysteries emerge

as the undeniable

unfolds from within

i love mornings before the world awakens.  the soft welcoming sounds of

birds as they begin to flutter and twitter, the sun gently readies itself

for the day,  cresting over the horizon.    i cant wait to make my way

to my newly carved out studio space where the morning sun shines

gloriously each day.  ever since i can remember i've been a morning person.

at night,  though, that's another story.

Synchronicity

Yesterday was the World Day of Metta

I  didn't know until I saw Meri's Musings

but I spent the day painting this

Distant Dreams

acrylic, collage, pencil on wood panel

cathedral bells call

distant dreams, far off places

cobblestoned secrets

thinking of far off places

to create with old friends and new

sips of tamarind margaritas

i close my eyes and

am almost there

Keep Trying

she didn't feel right.  so i left her on my desk for a while.

i came back to her this morning.  i moved her eyes and hairline down. then  remembered

the problem i had earlier.  the first layer was a thick coat of oil pastel.  i couldn't apply the

following layers of color evenly or where i wanted.   that's why her eyes are so black.  the pastel

just smeared all over.   i finally scraped some areas down to the original collaged papers.  then reapplied

oil   pastels. i like her better now.   don't give up on your work.   keep looking, keep trying another

layer, another  medium but keep trying.   don't fret when it's not perfect.  it's all a part of the creative

process.  you will be happy you did.

Spring Fever

i'm filling my world

with spring flowers.... the promisee

and magic of life

i can't seem to stop adding

more flowers

even the fallen flowers bring beauty

spring has spilled over

on to the page

care free

whimsical colors

splashing my journal

recently i have been feeling some pressue ~~pressure to create something different,

create a masterpiece, create something to submit, create what is really within me,

create something original.  you get the picture.  it has gradually eaten away at

the spontaneity and just plain fun of putting paint to paper, rip and gluing paper,

the journey of the next step as it arrives.  too much thinking spoils the cake so to speak.

but orly reminded me to follow the process.  to do one step at a time, look, really see

what's there and then take the next step and then the next.  let the work

itself inform you, not the part of the brain that plans the whole thing out.

i then remembered to be surprised, delighted in the outcome,

that there are no mistakes, really, everything changes,

layers can be added along with a new understanding

of who you are and what your life is about.

one step at a time, one step in this present moment.

Still Seeing Faces

after taking Misty Mawn's Face to Face online class,
i am seeing faces everywhere.  here are two of them on scrap cardboard.
i am astonished at how much can be offered and learned online. of course
it takes practice, practice, practice and perseverance.
that's the fun part!

Changes and Transformations

the process of creation sometimes takes a while.  the first, second or third
try many times is not what what we envision.  i was not happy with this large piece
that was started in flora bowley's workshop a while ago.   i added stenciling, some pen work, some pencil work after this was taken  but still it did not 'feel right.'  so i added some paint.

and more paint

then i took some of the dark away. . . .

i am beginning to see what it may become.  i'll keep you posted.

Ancestry

acrylic, gesso, ink, pencil, collage on canvas wip

a wistful longing

regenerates ancient ties

to another time

i have been painting every day.  it's been a bit of a push.
misty's face to face workshop as well as gritty jane's 10 day challenge
have both helped to keep the momentum going.
also i love my new studio space.
the morning light draws me in
to create first thing even though i often feel as if
i can't or don't know what to paint next.
but once i am in my space around my materials
i start.  from that point there is no looking back

here are a few of the faces i've painted.  my son
says they are scary but then he said he likes scary:)

okay.  they are a little scary :)
